Business Description
Friends in Need’s mission is to provide a loving and safe home for all of our animal residents with volunteer opportunities to assist in animal care and self-sustaining agriculture. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a Self-Sustaining Sanctuary (SSS), FIN asks for your help in caring for the over 250 animals and 20,000+ plants we work with the community to serve.
A Self-Sustaining Sanctuary (SSS), pioneered by Friends in Need, employs a cyclical value-added model to sustain animals. The concept is straightforward: Plants are cultivated using donated resources, yielding produce for animals and humans, and flowers that beautify the community and attract pollinators like hummingbirds. Community members then donate for these plants, with proceeds used to buy food for animals. The animals’ diet creates rich compost, fostering plant growth, which again benefits the community. This model addresses the economic challenges in animal rescue by establishing a symbiotic relationship between plants, animals, and the community.
The results have been outstanding. With over 250 animals, flourishing gardens, and volunteers fostering connections with the animals, land, and each other, a true refuge has emerged. We are committed to supporting and protecting this haven.
Your involvement can make a significant difference. There are numerous ways to contribute, from volunteering your time and energy to serving in the organization. Friends in Need"s success is due to the collective efforts of people committed to making the SSS dream a reality.
